Need = Product





In an attempt to address the user needs by developing a concept that result from asking the research questions, it is helpful to illustrate the identification process that lead to features and define the constraints that each solution must satisfy in order to transform needs into a product.

Methodology: a problem-solving process

The following is a list of different activities employed to collect data relevant to the research problem:

  • Contacted the BEBHS Development Director to gain access to the site.
  • Conducting site-based field work to answer the general question.
  • Used Big net approach to get an overall sense of the facility.
  • Key informants were identified who could provide information and insight relevant to the research question.
  • Conducting interviews with key informants at main facility.
  • Conducting comparative analysis by visiting other sites.
  • Administered online survey questionnaire to interview participants to create a chart.
  • Participation Observation will be completed to gain an 'insider' perspective about the research question that would not otherwise be obtained in any other way.
  • Review of existing products and design concepts from other areas.
  • Review of universal design, sustainable design, and feeding shelter animals literature.
  • Review of online resources from professional organizations.
  • Scenario building to better understand user interaction.
